Centerville

The Centerville Library

126 West Main Street, Centerville

This beautiful red brick building was originally the Wayne County Sheriff’s home and Jail. County records were also maintained in this building until 1873 when the Court House  was moved to Richmond. It was one of the finest buildings in the county at the time. The original holes are still in the wall above the front entrance where a canon was fired at the building to prevent Richmond citizens from moving  the records to Richmond.
