Health and wellness are important to a single person, but also important to the community as a whole. When it comes to health or wellness, a lot of people only think about their own personal lifestyle and choices, and they usually don’t consider the entire community’s health. The community’s health is important because it can have an effect on its quality of life and living standards. As a collective impact initiative, Forward Wayne County is focused on collaborative community action toward addressing mental health and substance use within the community.  This focus includes gathering groups and forming discussions focused on improving access to care for the community and enhancing the wellness of the county.

Communities in Wayne County have taken steps to help improve the health and wellness throughout their town. One of the ways that they do this is through holding different events that raise awareness for health and wellness. This is one of the best ways to get involved with the community and improve your own health and wellness.  Continue reading to learn more about events and opportunities for support across Wayne County!  Also, be sure to check out the WayNet community calendar to learn more about the Health and Wellness events happening all year long.

NUTRITION

This open-air event is held every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Elstro Plaza.

MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Counseling is important to good mental health.  Counseling can help people talk with others about their life experiences. Reid Health is one facility that offers a number of support groups throughout the year.  One group is the Postpartum Support Group which is held every first and third Tuesday of the month from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This meeting is going to be held on June 3rd from 7:30 to 9:30 at First Presbyterian Church.
